What is IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photorejuvenation is a treatment for brown spots, redness, age spots, broken blood vessels, and rosacea.
Who is a candidate for IPL?
You may not be a good candidate for IPL therapy if you are prone to developing red, raised keloid scars or other forms of excess scarring, hyperpigmentation, or hypopigmentation. You are also not a good candidate for intense pulsed light therapy if you do not react well to burns or if you have diabetes, as this disease may affect your body's wound-healing ability.
Does it take long to recover?
For veins, generally, the skin looks slightly redder after the treatment for two to five days. Makeup can be used starting right after the treatment, as long as it is applied and removed very gently. Rarely, there is bruising, which can take 1-2 weeks to resolve.
The brown spots that have been effectively treated typically will get darker initially over the next 24 hours, then slowly fade away over the next 1-2 weeks.
How long will the results last?
The results of IPL for the treatment of sun damage are long lasting, however if you go out in the sun and get more sun damage and discoloration you may need to get more IPL treatments. Now if IPL was used to treat rosacea or facial redness, the results are temporary because in the case of rosacea the patient's hormones are producing the pigmentation and redness.
