Frequently asked questions
You may not be a good candidate for IPL therapy if you are prone to developing red, raised keloid scars or other forms of excess scarring, hyperpigmentation, or hypopigmentation. You are also not a good candidate for intense pulsed light therapy if you do not react well to burns or if you have diabetes, as this disease may affect your body’s wound-healing ability.
For veins, generally, the skin looks slightly redder after the treatment for two to five days. Makeup can be used starting right after the treatment, as long as it is applied and removed very gently. Rarely, there is bruising, which can take 1-2 weeks to resolve.
The brown spots that have been effectively treated typically will get darker initially over the next 24 hours, then slowly fade away over the next 1-2 weeks.
The results of IPL for the treatment of sun damage are long lasting, however if you go out in the sun and get more sun damage and discoloration you may need to get more IPL treatments. Now if IPL was used to treat rosacea or facial redness, the results are temporary because in the case of rosacea the patient’s hormones are producing the pigmentation and redness.
If you have lighter skin but are tanned, you need to wait until you are no longer tanned before undergoing laser hair removal. Self-tanner and lotion also count, so avoid this as well. Save yourself the time, and avoid sun exposure if you are considering laser hair removal!
If you have darker skin, hope is not lost! You may still be a candidate.
Hair removal lasers work best on dark, coarse hair. Some with blonde, gray, or red body hair might not achieve desired results when undergoing laser hair removal. Lighter hair is more difficult to treat, and will require more time, money, and sessions. Even with the extra effort, there is not a guarantee that you will be happy with the results. White or grey hair might be untreatable, as no pigment exists.
Other individuals who might run into difficulties are those with very fine and thin hair. For example, “peach fuzz” hairs are untreatable. Be aware that you might not see the results you hope for if you are trying to treat fine hair.
Another important thing to consider regarding hair type is the location of the hair. The eyebrow is the only area that cannot be done.
Your hair type and color can affect your candidacy. If you have concerns, a professional can evaluate your hair to determine if you’re the right fit.
Most laser hair removal procedures take fifteen to thirty minutes; however, a longer time period may be required, depending on the area being treated. Your provider will follow the treatment plan discussed with you. After your procedure is completed, you will be able to return home and resume your normal activities.
Even then, some hair may eventually grow back. While “permanent” laser hair removal is a misnomer, after six to eight treatments, you can expect a marked reduction in hair. Any regrowth can be managed with touch-up treatments every six to 12 months.
Both men and women can make an excellent candidate for the Laser Genesis procedure. Anyone frustrated with diffused redness, scars, uneven skin tone, or lines and wrinkles.
Laser Genesis has zero downtime or recovery.
Most people experience results that last from 6 to 12 months. About 6 treatments are recommended for the best results. Patients are encouraged to use good skin care practices preceding and following Laser Genesis treatment.
